UNILAG CHSD and REDAN Graduate Second Batch of Property Developers, Strengthening Professional Standards in Nigeria’s Real Estate Sector
Lagos, Nigeria — 05 Wed, Nov 2025
The University of Lagos Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development (CHSD), in partnership with the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Nigeria (REDAN), has successfully concluded the second batch of its landmark Capacity-Building Programme for Real Estate Developers, a collaborative initiative designed to enhance professionalism, ethical standards, and technical competence within Nigeria’s real estate industry.
The programme, launched under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CHSD and REDAN, continues to serve as a vital response to the sector’s most pressing challenges, including regulatory non-compliance, substandard building practices, and Nigeria’s estimated 20 million housing unit deficit.
Driving Professionalism Through Knowledge and Ethics
Building on the achievements of the inaugural cohort, the second batch attracted a new wave of real estate professionals, from emerging entrepreneurs to established developers seeking to align their practices with national and global standards.

“The enthusiasm of this second batch reflects a growing commitment to ethical and sustainable real estate practice,” said Professor Timothy Nubi, Director of CHSD. “Our mission is to produce developers who are not only competent but also responsible, ensuring safety, sustainability, and trust in the housing sector.”
Innovative Curriculum with Real-World Relevance
The five-week intensive training combines academic rigor with industry expertise.
New additions to the curriculum for the second batch included:
- PropTech and Digital Real Estate Transformation
- Green Building and Sustainable Design Principles
- Financial Intelligence and Real Estate Investment Strategies
- Updated Compliance and Regulatory Modules from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and state planning agencies.
Guest speakers included experts from both government and private sector institutions, sharing insights on market regulation, ethical development, and urban governance.
Field-Based Learning and Regulatory Engagement
A core feature of the programme is its on-site learning component, which exposes participants to real-world compliance and project management practices.
During the field sessions, trainees visited regulatory agencies and development projects in Lagos to better understand approval processes, safety requirements, and the operational realities of responsible real estate practice.
Scaling Nationwide: Toward a Certified, Trusted Industry
With over 200 developers now trained across two batches, REDAN is advancing its goal to make the CHSD–REDAN certification mandatory for membership and a national professional benchmark.
The association aims to train all 5,000+ members in subsequent batches, in collaboration with state governments and key industry regulators.
Addressing the Housing Deficit Through Human Capacity
The partnership is a cornerstone of efforts to close Nigeria’s housing gap, promote safe building practices, and boost investor confidence.
By equipping developers with the right tools and knowledge, CHSD and REDAN are laying the groundwork for a sustainable, inclusive, and well-regulated real estate ecosystem.
Next Steps
The third batch of the Capacity-Building Programme is set to commence soon, with plans to expand training delivery to regional hubs and digital learning platforms to accommodate participants nationwide.
