CALL FOR PAPERS: 2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND FAIR ON LAND AND DEVELOPMENT (NOVEMBER 26 – 28, 2024)
The rapid urbanization and economic growth experienced in African cities, have brought about significant changes in the way land is managed and utilized. These cities face a range of land-related challenges, including informal settlements, land tenure insecurity, environmental degradation, and unequal access to land-based resources. These issues pose significant barriers to the state’s sustainable development and the well-being of its inhabitants.
In response to these pressing concerns, the proposed international conference on “Sustainable Land Management for Inclusive Development in African cities” will provide a dynamic platform for stakeholders to explore innovative solutions and share best practices in land management and development. The conference will bring together policymakers, urban planners, land professionals, researchers, civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the critical issues at the intersection of land and development in the context of cities in Africa.
Aim:
The aim of the international conference is to facilitate a collaborative and solutions-oriented dialogue that will contribute to the sustainable and inclusive management of land resources in African cities. The conference will serve as a catalyst for knowledge-sharing, policy discourse, and the development of practical strategies to address the complex land-related challenges facing the cities in Africa.
Objectives:
⦁ To examine the current state of land governance, planning, and management in cities, and identify key challenges and opportunities.
⦁ To explore innovative approaches to urban land-use planning, zoning, and the integration of environmental considerations into land development processes.
⦁ To discuss strategies for addressing informal settlements, land tenure insecurity, and equitable access to land-based resources, with a focus on vulnerable and marginalized communities.
⦁ To analyze the role of innovative financing mechanisms and public-private partnerships in supporting sustainable land development projects in African cities.
⦁ To facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and collaborative initiatives among stakeholders from various sectors, including government, academia, civil society, and the private sector.
⦁ To provide recommendations for strengthening the capacity of local authorities and institutions in land management, as well as enhancing data and information systems to support evidence-based decision-making.
⦁ To explore the integration of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies into land management policies and practices in African cities.

The proposed theme and sub-themes aim to address the various challenges and opportunities related to land management and development in the rapidly growing city of Lagos, Nigeria. The conference would provide a platform for policymakers, urban planners, researchers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to share best practices, discuss innovative solutions, and collaborate towards achieving sustainable and inclusive land development in Lagos State.
The outcomes of this international conference will contribute to the development of a comprehensive and inclusive approach to land management and development in Lagos State, ultimately supporting the state’s sustainable growth and the well-being of its residents.
